A state with abundant natural beauty, Colorado draws both new residents and visitors year round. The state is known for its soaring mountains and the outdoor experiences it is well equipped to provide. There is truly something for everyone, whether it is the scenery, outdoor recreational activities, historical and cultural sights, or shopping, five star Colorado hotels can offer a place to rest while taking in the beauty and relaxing in the Centennial State.

The state's large cities, Denver and Colorado Springs, are situated along the Front Range. Denver isn't the most popular spot in the state, but it's where the airport is located and there are spectacular views of the Rock Mountains beyond the city. Denver is the largest city in the region and it sits at 5,280 feet, earning it the nickname of the "Mile High City". Visitors may want to try some of Denver's famous bizarre foods, like Rocky Mountain Oysters. Beware, as these aren't oysters at all and they are really fried bull's testicles. Denver is quickly being overcome by Boulder as the popular destination for travelers. Both Denver and Boulder are about the same distance from the airport and Boulder puts visitors near Rocky Mountain National Park and ski resorts.

Most visitors come to Colorado to do one or all of three activities. These are to visit sites of historical and cultural significance, look at scenery, or participate in outdoor recreational activities. The most popular visit times are during the summer and winter months. Some people plan their trip during the spring or fall months, in order to evade the crowds at common destinations like Garden of the Gods, Rocky National Park and Pikes Peak.

Transportation in and around Colorado can be done through the use of public transportation like buses or taxis. Buses are an economical option for brief trips between cities. Front Range Express offers trips between Colorado Springs and Denver, while Greyhound operates throughout the state. For visitors who plan to travel around the state, or even anywhere outside of Denver, the most popular option is to rent a car. Most visitors who fly to Colorado will touch down at Denver International Airport and most five star Colorado hotels in Denver are not near the airport. Some hotels provide a shuttle service and the airport has a shuttle service to certain areas of town. Another option for getting around the state is by Amtrak, which has two train routes within the state.

For a glimpse into the Native American history of the state, visitors can venture to several attractions. These sites provide the opportunity to learn about the Native American culture and the history of tribes in the state. Those who would rather be engaging in outdoor activities will discover that there is opportunity everywhere in the state for outdoor recreation. During all seasons of the year, visitors can find outdoor activities from skiing and snowboarding to hiking and biking. There is an extensive collection of trails over a variety of terrains that will leave the mountain biker hungry for more.

Colorado's population has grown exponentially in the past twenty years, at three times the national growth average. With its invitation to come live in the wild but enjoy proximity to civilization, the state is not just a popular location for vacationers. New Coloradoans are often looking for a break from life on the bustling and congested U.S. coasts and they enjoy outdoor activities.

Rocky Mountain National Park is located in the northern region of the Rocky Mountains, as are the well-known ski resorts like Aspen and Vail. Rocky Mountain National Park is home to towering peaks and expanses of tundra. This park sees in excess of three million visitors annually and is rarely left off a traveler's Colorado itinerary. The Rocky Mountains are the main draw for many people and visitors are rarely disappointed by the impressive and breathtaking beauty. To see North America's tallest sand dunes, visitors should plan a trip to the Southern Rockies and the Great Sand Dunes National Monument and Preserve. Durango is a city in southwestern Colorado that is worth a visit. It's an old mining town in the mountains with saloons and an Old West feel.

By far, the most attractive element about Colorado is its natural beauty and the juxtaposition of wilderness and civilization throughout the state. There is something to entertain and satisfy every traveler. Since tourism supplies the state's economic stability, residents of the state are welcoming. Explore and experience all that the state has to offer and find a place to unwind at any of the five star Colorado hotels.
